SeaGarden consortium holds its online kick-off
The SeaGarden consortium met online on 19 June 2026 for the project’s official kick-off, three weeks after the project started on 1 June. Partners from Lithuania, Germany, Poland and Denmark used the session to confirm governance arrangements, walk through the work plan and agree the first activities of the 36-month project.
Klaipeda University leads the project and coordinates WP1 Management & Coordination. The meeting confirmed the leadership of the three thematic work packages: Gdynia Maritime University leads WP2, building the technical knowledge base behind the Decision-Support Toolbox and Technical Toolkit; Alles Alge leads WP3, establishing the pilot Sea Gardens; and EUCC – The Coastal Union Germany leads WP4, which anchors long-term impact through the SeaGarden Knowledge Hub, capacity building and policy alignment.
Partners also set the direction for the pilot work. Kerteminde Seafarm in Denmark joins the project as a forerunner, and its operating experience will feed into the design of the new pilot Sea Gardens planned for Germany, Poland and Lithuania. The consortium agreed to reconvene in person in Denmark in September for a second part of the kick-off, combining project sessions with a visit to the Danish forerunner farm.
SeaGarden runs from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029 with a total budget of €1,547,557.50, of which €1,238,046.00 is provided by the European Union through the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021–2027 under Priority 2, Specific Objective 2.2 (water management and water resource conservation).
