Decision-Support Toolbox
An interactive online tool that displays local environmental and hydrographic data, maps suitable sites, and compares farming methods, with customised guidance for public authorities, practitioners and communities.
Development status
A working prototype is being built at Klaipeda University as project deliverable D2.2, the Decision-Support Tool prototype and functional specification. Its source code and functional specification are openly available under the EUPL-1.2 licence at github.com/razinkele/seagarden-dst.
A running copy of the prototype is available at laguna.ku.lt/seagarden-dst. It is published on the university’s development server rather than here, deliberately: it is a working prototype, not a tool to plan a real farm with.
The prototype runs on placeholder site conditions — nothing it currently displays is a measurement. Real environmental data layers, the interactive map and the permitting rules for each country are still being assembled, and the tool’s biological coefficients will be re-fitted once the pilot Sea Gardens start producing harvest data. Until then, every figure it reports is labelled with where the number came from, so that literature estimates are never mistaken for results measured in the South Baltic.
The finished Toolbox will be a web application hosted on KU infrastructure as part of the SeaGarden Knowledge Hub (planned availability by project end, May 2029). Under the project’s grant commitments it then stays online, with open-access source code and data layers, for at least five years after the project closes — to May 2034.
